New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Rajma Chitra Indian Brazil proves have increased by Rs 400/500 per quintal due to widespread buying interest from Delhi-NCR, Haryana and Punjab. In Delhi, Indian-Brazilian rajma is reportedly trading at Rs 127/130 per kg, depending on quality, although supplies remain limited even at these prices. Approximately 90% of Indian-Brazilian rajma and Varun stocks have reportedly moved into the hands of large stockholders. Meanwhile, Chinese suppliers are quoting spot-shipment prices at an additional US$50 per tonne, as major stockists there are actively buying. Indian-Brazilian rajma accounts for the bulk of current trading activity. Severe water shortages in the Barshi region have also restricted sowing to around 20% of the usual level. Considering these factors, prices are likely to rise intermittently in the coming period.
Wheat: Sell at Current Prices
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Due to the higher wheat production and the government’s effective procurement management, the procurement of wheat expected to around 356/357 lakh metric tonnes, exceeding the target by 11/12 lakh metric tonnes. As demand from South India emerged after prices declined over the previous fortnight, wheat prices recovered by Rs 80/90 per quintal. Mill-quality wheat in Delhi is now quoted at Rs 3150/3160 per quintal at the upper end. At these levels, traders should continue selling their stocks, as both government and private warehouses are under considerable stock pressure. Farmers have also started selling at higher prices. Meanwhile, the government may increase the quantity offered under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
Fine Rice: Adverse Weather Conditions Push Prices at higher level
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Basmati paddy arrivals are 20/22 percent higher than during the corresponding period last year. However, strong buying by exporters has encouraged stockists to enter the market aggressively, pushing the price of 1509 rice up by Rs 10/12 per kg from its previous lower levels. Paddy prices have also increased by Rs 7/8 per kg. Recent rainfall caused some paddy crops to lodge in the fields. However, the storms arrived a month earlier last year and repeated adverse weather conditions continue to affect the crop. Consequently, market prices have risen considerably, and the possibility of further gains remains due to continued weather uncertainty. In Delhi, 1509 sela rice has traded at Rs 84/85 per kg, while steam rice prices have reached Rs 85/86 per kg. Exporters had shown strong demand across the market for September shipments, and most of that demand has now been fulfilled. Although rice prices may rise by another Rs 3/4 per kg, buying at these levels appears risky.
Maize: Prices Likely to Rise Further
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Maize prices have started rising due to widespread buying in Madhya Pradesh mandis and competitive purchases by stockists. Supplies in Bihar have also been exhausted, and existing stocks have traded at Rs 2850 per quintal for delivery to Haryana and Punjab. Adequate quantities are not readily available as some traders quoting Rs 2900 per quintal. Although the new crop is standing ready in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and the prices may not show more downfall in future. Maize continues to attract strong demand because of its relatively high prices compared with other coarse grains. Madhya Pradesh-origin maize is trading at Rs 2600/2650 per quintal for delivery to warehouses. Ethanol companies are also unable to procure rice at the rates available under tender arrangements. Considering all these factors, maize prices are likely to remain firm and rise further.
Millet: Further Price Rise Expected
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Favourable weather conditions have supported the arrival of new millet supplies from Haryana and Rajasthan since September. However, high maize prices have increased demand for bajra from the cattle and poultry feed sectors. Stockists have also started buying actively in mandis at prices of Rs 2380/2450 per quintal. Warehouse delivery prices have also begun moving higher. Transactions for delivery to Mauli Barwala have taken place at Rs 2550/2560 per quintal, with buyers continuing to show interest at these levels. Companies, meanwhile, are quoting around Rs 2350 per quintal. Considering these circumstances, further price increases are expected in the coming period.
Masoor: Overseas Supplies Likely to Limit a Sustained Rally
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Supplies of masoor have declined in the Mungawali, Ganj Basoda, Binaganj, Bhopal and Ashok Nagar regions of Madhya Pradesh. As a result, a shortage developed at Indian ports, due to this, Canadian masoor prices up by Rs 100 to Rs 6100 per quintal in Delhi. Although Canadian prices are now being quoted higher than before, pressure from the new crop is increasing in Canada, and sellers have started offering stocks at lower prices. Considering these developments, Canadian masoor supplies are likely to prevent a sustained price rally in both imported and domestic large-sized masoor.
Urad: Shortage of Supplies Across Markets
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): The kharif urad crop has arrived in all major producing regions, but the anticipated increase in production is not evident in the market to the extent previously claimed. Despite this, urad prices remained slightly weak last week due to subdued buying interest. In Delhi, FAQ urad is quoted at Rs 9800 per quintal, while SQ urad is at Rs 10150 per quintal. New urad arrivals have started in the Gangoh region, where transactions are taking place at Rs 9200/9400 per quintal. Last week, Rangoon-origin urad prices fluctuated by Rs 100/200 per quintal before showing some weakness. Consequently, prices in Chennai have eased to Rs 9400/9500 per quintal at the lower end. Myanmar-origin urad is expensive on a landed-cost basis, while supplies remain limited across domestic markets. As a result, trading at prevailing spot prices has become unviable for many traders. Demand from pulse mills remains firm due to the shortage of available stocks. After a brief period of consolidation, urad prices are expected to rise by another ₹300 per quintal.
Moong: Prices Unlikely to Decline
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): New moong arrivals have started from Rajasthan, but supplies of old moong from mandis in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar remain limited. Meanwhile, exporters continue to show intermittent but firm buying interest in superior-quality stocks. As a result, prices are gradually moving higher rather than declining. In Delhi, good-quality Rajasthan moong is being quoted at ₹8,600–8,700 per quintal, while new arrivals of lower quality are selling at Rs 8000/8200 per quintal. Unlike last year, the quality difference between various grades is not as pronounced this season. Old, lower-quality stocks are trading at Rs 7000/7500 per quintal. As arrivals are not increasing enough to create market pressure, a significant decline in prices is unlikely over the next few days.
Tur: Prices Expected to Rise Again
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Last week, prices of seasonal vegetables such as spinach, cauliflower and mustard greens eased slightly. Meanwhile, tur prices fluctuated between Rs 9700 and Rs 9900 per quintal respectively as buying interest weakened at higher levels. However, the tur crop in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra is not developing under favourable conditions, raising the possibility of a quick price increase from current levels. Although lower prices of peas and batri have encouraged strong sales of blended pulses in eastern India, tur prices are expected to remain firm due to strong import demand and rising prices in major African producing countries. Stocks in Chennai are also not particularly high, while spot shipment prices from Rangoon are considerably expensive. Consequently, lemon tur, which was trading at Rs 9700 per quintal in Delhi last week, rose to Rs 9900 per quintal. It is currently being quoted at around Rs 9800 per quintal, and prices could rise by another Rs 500 per quintal in the coming period.
Gram desi: Firm Trend Likely to Continue
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Last week, chana arrivals from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh remained very low. However, weak pulse sales pushed prices down to Rs 7350 per quintal. As stocks were not readily available at these levels, the market opened firmer today, with prices being quoted at Rs 7500 per quintal. Local and outstation demand for chana dal has also improved from lower price levels. With no significant pressure from arrivals in Rajasthan, Karnataka and Maharashtra, prices could rise by another Rs 500 per quintal as buying interest improves. Therefore, traders should continue purchasing good-quality chana at current prices, as stocks remain limited across all states.
Gram kabuli: purchase at lower level
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Buying interest in gram kabuli remained extremely weak last week, causing Maharashtra-origin unsorted kabuli chana prices to decline by Rs 300 to Rs 8200/8500 per quintal. Supplies from producing mandis are not available at attractive landed costs, but trading activity remains subdued in Delhi and the wider NCR market. Business conditions are unfavourable due to the heavy festive-season rush ahead of Diwali. In contrast, prices in Madhya Pradesh mandis have risen because exporters are also purchasing stocks, which are being shipped directly to Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. This allows buyers in consumption centres to save on transportation costs. With supplies tightening, kabuli chana prices may rebound after a few days. Gram kabuli of Maharashtra which was trading at Rs 82/85 per kg, has increased by Rs 13 per kg over the past 10 days. Although sellers are not aggressively offering stocks at lower prices, traders should continue booking profits at higher levels. Moreover, international prices remain elevated, and as global market conditions return to normal, domestic prices could rise further.
Pea – Trading at Current Levels Appears Risky
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Lower pea production and expensive imports have resulted in a shortage of available stocks in consumption markets. At present, buyers seeking supplies through Mundra Port are being quoted considerably higher landed costs. Meanwhile, weak buying interest has led to trading in the Delhi market at a discount to replacement costs. Shortages are also beginning to emerge in Odisha, Assam, Jharkhand and West Bengal, prompting shipments from Indian ports to these states. Considering the limited availability of stocks and expensive imports, buying peas at current levels does not appear particularly risky.
Guar: No Significant Decline Expected
New Delhi, 26 October (NNS): Guar prices in Jodhpur mandi declined by Rs 300 to Rs 8000/8050 per quintal during the previous week due to weak demand from guar gum mills and selling pressure from stockists. In Ahmedabad mandi, prices fell proportionately to Rs 8200/8250 per quintal. Guar futures on the NCDEX witnessed minor fluctuations due to speculative buying and selling. Considering the supply-demand situation, a further decline in prices is not expected.
