New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Paddy arrivals of the 1509 variety have started increasing in the markets of North India. However, the availability of old paddy remains limited, strengthening rice mills’ hold over the new crop. Due to the shortage of old paddy and buying by exporters, the market has been recovering after corrections. The trading price of 1509 Sela rice stands at Rs 8200/8300 per quintal. During the final trading session of the previous week, prices had fallen to Rs 8000 per quintal, but limited availability and widespread buying by packaging manufacturers and exporters at lower levels triggered a fresh rise. There is no significant supply pressure in other Basmati rice varieties. Therefore, the market is unlikely to decline over the next few days, as demand continues at current prices. Rice mills are also buying paddy aggressively. Considering these factors, the market is expected to rise further, although a sharp seasonal rally later could prove damaging for traders. At present, however, there are no clear signs of a decline.
Wheat: Prices Will Decline Only After OMSS Sales Begin
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Wheat supplies have declined across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab and other states because around 90 percent of farmers’ produce this season has gone into government procurement. Meanwhile, wheat exports have been opened, causing prices at the lower end of the market to rise by Rs 70/80 per quintal over the past week. On the other hand, the procurement of government has exceeded the target and it reached to 356/357 lakh metric tonnes. However, the government has not yet announced any sales in the open market under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS). Consequently, wheat prices have reached Rs 3025/3050 per quintal. Prices are not expected to decline in the near future, although traders should continue booking profits.
Maize: No Scope of more downfall
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): New maize has arrived in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, but supplies from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are still absent from the market. As a result, prices of old stocks have started being quoted at considerably higher levels. Maize from Bihar, which was previously selling at Rs 2700 per quintal, is now being quoted at around Rs 2750 per quintal for delivery. Maize from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is selling at Rs 2500/2600 per quintal at rail loading points for consumption by industries and supplies to South India. Consequently, The prices of maize may show significant downfall. Notably, companies are currently willing to place indent orders at rail loading points. Under these circumstances, maize prices in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are unlikely to fall sharply this season.
Millet: Prices Are Unlikely to Decline
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): The new crop of millet is arriving in Haryana, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh. However, the high cost of poultry and cattle feed has recently increased bajra consumption by 32 percent. As a result, millet prices had reached Rs 2550 per quintal at the Mauli-Barwala market. Prices are now being quoted down by Rs 40/50 per quintal, but arrivals in mandis remain weak, and some time is still left before the Uttar Pradesh crop arrives. Therefore, millet prices appear likely to rise further, and traders should continue buying at current levels.
Masoor: may show nominal downfall
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): The masoor of Canada is estimated to be decrease by 7–8 percent this season, making import parity costs more expensive. Consequently, importers have started quoting imported masoor landed at Mundra Port at Rs 5800/5850 per quintal. Domestic production has also remained low this season, as cultivation of small-sized masoor is gradually declining. Sowing of large-sized masoor has also fallen considerably in Madhya Pradesh. As a result, neither Canadian nor domestic masoor is available at attractive procurement costs in producing regions. In the domestic market, Canadian masoor is selling at Rs 6150 per quintal, while desi masoor in bilti is being quoted at Rs 6825/6830 per quintal depending on quality and the specified 2.5-kg condition. Therefore, buying at current prices does not appear particularly risky.
Urad: No selling pressure from the domestic markets
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): All the urad consignments dispatched from Chennai have been cleared. However, profit-booking sales by stockists holding warehouse stocks have led to a market correction. Despite this, the availability of goods remains limited, and prices have recovered. Urad SQ quality is now quoted at Rs 10350 per quintal, while FAQ quality is priced at Rs 10100 per quintal. In reality, the urad crop in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has already arrived and been largely cleared, and higher prices are now being quoted in mandis. Dal sales remain good in regular trading channels. Meanwhile, offers from Yangon have increased by another $15–20 per tonne. Under these circumstances, traders should avoid taking positions based on an expected price decline.
Moong: Prices May Rise a Little Further
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Despite a widespread increase in moong arrivals, buying by dal mills has pushed prices of superior-quality Rajasthan moong up by Rs 100/150 per quintal. Meanwhile, a substantial quantity of good-quality moong from Madhya Pradesh has already been sold. As a result, prices have risen to Rs 8900/9000 per quintal depending on quality. There is still no significant supply pressure from Rajasthan’s moong crop, leaving limited room for a substantial decline. China is once again buying good-quality supplies. Under these circumstances, traders should continue trading in moong.
Tur: Buying Could Be Profitable
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): The impact of El-Niño has caused extensive damage to the tur crop in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. There is little doubt about the extent of the damage. Although tur does not require excessive water, the absence of rainfall in some areas for the past two months has adversely affected the crop. During the afternoon, plants in these areas have started showing signs of drying. Consequently, both productivity and overall production in the upcoming crop are expected to decline. Meanwhile, import parity costs from Yangon have increased, pushing lemon tur prices to Rs 100 per kg. A further increase of Rs 5 per kg is anticipated.
Gram desi– Prices May Rise Further
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Supplies of Rajasthan desi chana have not been arriving in line with seasonal expectations, and the quality of the produce has been relatively poor, resulting in inadequate supplies. Strong buying by dal mills had pushed prices up to Rs 7700 per quintal from lower levels. However, profit-booking sales have brought prices down to Rs 7500 per quintal. Australian gram stocks have already been exhausted. Considering overall production and the high cost of imports, gram desi appears to offer considerable profit potential in the coming period.
Rajma Chitra: may not show more downfall
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Stocks of Indian and Brazilian Rajma Chitra in Maharashtra and North Indian mandis are not particularly high. Despite a rise of Rs 10/12 per kg last month, prices have subsequently declined by Rs 2 per kg. Buying interest has remained weak during the current week, and a further slight decline is possible. However, once prices fall further, trading in Rajma Chitra could again become profitable. The arrival of new crops is delayed, while prices of old stocks remain high in international markets. Therefore, as soon as buying interest returns, prices could rise again by Rs 7/8 per kg.
Gram kabuli: Buy During the Decline
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Following a sharp rally in Kabuli chana, prices have declined by Rs 400/500 per quintal over the past two to three days and are now quoted at Rs 8400/8500 per quintal. At current market prices, procuring goods from producing mandis is resulting in an unfavourable price difference of around Rs 350 per quintal compared with prevailing rates. Considering these factors, traders should resume buying Kabuli chana at current levels. The recent decline is attributed mainly to profit-booking sales and reduced trading activity amid the Navratri rush. If rainfall does not occur over the coming week, sowing of gram kabuli could face difficulties. Given the shortage of goods in the market, prices appear likely to rise again.
Pea:Trading Is Expected to Remain Profitable
New Delhi, 14 October (NNS): Local and outstation demand for pea remains strong because prices had been relatively low, making procurement attractive for traders. This has helped maintain market strength. Over the past month, improved local and outstation demand has pushed prices up by Rs 50/60 per quintal. Prices at Mundra Port have showed uptrend, triggering a corresponding rise in the domestic market. Pea which were previously selling at Rs 4700 per quintal, are now quoted at Rs 5000 per quintal. Therefore, the market is expected to remain firm in the coming period, offering further trading opportunities.
