New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): The prices of guar gum went up by Rs 200 to Rs 16200/16300 per quintal due to the weak demand from the gum powder manufacturers. In Jodhpur Mandi, its prices remained at Rs 8100/8150 per quintal owing to the constant selling from the stockists. In the markets of Haryana, its prices remained stable at the same level. There is no possibility of more downfall in the prices during the near future.
Wheat: may show more downfall
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): The government’s decision to allow exports of wheat and its products has increased demand for wheat. In reality, the government has procured a substantial quantity of farmers’ wheat this season through its well-planned procurement strategy. The remaining wheat stocks are largely being retained by farmers for their own consumption. Meanwhile, traders in local mandis are not coming forward to sell, as export demand is limiting the downside in prices. Under these circumstances, prices are unlikely to decline significantly until the government releases wheat stocks in the open market.
Fine Rice: Selling Pressure Remain Weak
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): There is no significant pressure of old or new rice and paddy stocks in the pipeline. Consequently, despite increased arrivals of new Basmati and non-Basmati paddy in Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh, rice mills, exporters and packaging manufacturers are actively purchasing at every price level. As a result, the market continues to move upward intermittently. Although paddy arrivals in mandis are continuously increasing, buying demand is even stronger. This is why 1509 and 1718 varieties of paddy and rice continue to witness an upward trend. However, selling pressure in 1401 Steam rice during the current week has led to some decline in its prices. In other varieties, limited availability and strong buying demand indicate that prices are unlikely to decline significantly in the near term. Farmers in Haryana and Punjab have increased the sowing of all varieties of paddy this season, encouraged by higher prices. Adequate canal water availability has also supported an excellent crop in both states. However, due to continuous demand from all sides, there is currently very little possibility of a decline in Basmati rice prices.
Maize: prices expected to increase
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): Maize sowing has been higher this Kharif season in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and several other states. Despite relatively low rainfall, crop conditions are being reported as very good across most regions. The crop in Uttar Pradesh has already been harvested, arrivals have started in Madhya Pradesh, and the crop in Maharashtra is also ready. Despite these developments, strong domestic and export demand continues to support the upward trend. In Madhya Pradesh mandis, maize is being traded at Rs 2875/2900 per quintal on a warehouse-delivery basis. Average-quality maize is selling at Rs 3000/3025 per quintal for delivery in Haryana and Punjab. Further price increases are expected in the coming days.
Millet: will remain high
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): Due to the currently high prices of maize, consumption of millet showed uptrend. Reports indicate good production across all major producing regions. However, higher poultry and cattle-feed prices, along with significantly higher wheat and maize prices, have resulted in an estimated 40% increase in millet consumption. As a result, millet has started trading at Rs 2675/2700 per quintal for delivery at Mauli Barwala. Further price increases are expected. Before the arrival of eastern Uttar Pradesh millet, stocks of western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana millet are likely to be largely exhausted.
Masoor: Prices Likely to Hover Around Rs 6700
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): The pipeline stock of masoor is not comfortable, while considerable time remains before the arrival of the new crop. However, Canadian masoor is available at considerably lower prices compared to domestic masoor. Therefore, there is unlikely to be any shortage of dal and malka, as mills will continue to receive imported stocks at economical rates for processing. Under these circumstances, domestic masoor, which is currently trading at Rs 6725 per quintal on a bilty basis, is unlikely to witness any significant upward or downward movement. Prices are expected to hover around Rs 6700. Canadian masoor is currently trading at Rs 6125 per quintal, and its prices may rise further. Therefore, trading in Canadian masoor may offer good returns in the future.
Urad: Further Price Rise Likely
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): The new urad crop has arrived in the Gangoh region, with supplies being quoted at Rs 8800/8900 per quintal for delivery in Delhi. Most of the available stock has already been absorbed by local markets. As a result, SQ urad prices have increased by Rs 100 to Rs 10500 per quintal, while FAQ urad prices have also reached Rs 10000 per quintal. It is worth noting that the quality of domestic urad from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan was poor this season due to inadequate rainfall, and these stocks have also been largely exhausted. Considering these circumstances, importers in Chennai are also reducing their sales. Meanwhile, prices in Yangon have increased by USD 20 per tonne over the last two days. The market may witness further gains in the coming days.
Moong: Trading at Current Levels May Be Profitable
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): We agree that a substantial quantity of good-quality moong has already been exported to China. However, tender stocks are still available at economical prices, while lower and mixed-quality stocks remain in local and distribution mandis. On the other hand, the new crop is ready for harvesting. Arrivals have started in Maharashtra, while Rajasthan is also expected to see arrivals shortly. Crop conditions are reported to be good across most regions. Some reports suggest that the Jalore region of Rajasthan has been affected by water shortages, but overall production is expected to remain favourable. Under these circumstances, aggressive bullish trading should be avoided for the time being. Good-quality Rajasthan moong is trading at Rs 8500/8600 per quintal, while tender-quality stocks from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are available at Rs 7000/7500 per quintal.
Tur: Further Price Rise Expected
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): No new tur crop is expected to arrive before January, and cheaper stocks are also not available in Yangon. Therefore, there is limited scope for a significant decline in current prices. With buying demand emerging, prices have increased by Rs 300 per quintal over the last two to three days to reach Rs 10400 per quintal. However, at these levels, imported tur from Chennai is not economically viable. Arrivals of domestic tur from Karnataka and Maharashtra are also limited, as local mill demand in these states has increased. Considering all these factors, there is little possibility of a price decline in tur. Instead, current levels may offer good returns in the future.
Gram desi: Prices May Rise Again After Correction
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): Stocks of gram desi in local mandis are limited. Following the recent price rise, profit-booking and selling pressure have pushed prices down to Rs 7450 per quintal for ready motor delivery at Lawrence Road. However, there is limited scope for further decline from current levels. Instead, domestic gram at prevailing prices appears to offer good profit potential. Unlike last year, Australian gram is not available at cheaper rates this season, and pipeline stocks are also limited. Over the past three years, most dal mills have faced continuous competition from Australian gram and have therefore been purchasing only according to their immediate requirements. As a result, mill stocks are also not very high.
Rajma Chitra: Limited Availability in Maharashtra
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): Production of Rajma Chitra has been considerably lower this season due to insufficient rainfall in Maharashtra, particularly in Pune, Satara, Wai, Khatav, Maini and other producing regions. According to market sources, total arrivals are expected to be barely around 15000/20000 bags. The second crop from the Barshi and Beed regions is expected to arrive in December. Meanwhile, old Indian and Brazilian stocks have been considerably reduced, pushing prices to Rs 129/132 per kg. Import parity prices for Chinese shipments scheduled for September and October are also quite high. Considering these factors, the future outlook for Rajma Chitra remains bullish.
Gram kabuli: Gradual Price Rise to Continue
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): Production of gram kabuli remained considerably lower during the previous season, while international market prices are trading at high levels. Domestic desi chana prices are also elevated, due to which lower-quality stocks are increasingly being used in besan production. Under these circumstances, Maharashtra gram kabuli, currently trading at Rs 8200/8500 per quintal, has limited downside potential. The next new crop is not expected to arrive for at least five months. Therefore, a considerable period of consumption demand remains ahead, which is likely to support prices.
Pea: Import Parity Remains Expensive
New Delhi, 06 November (NNS): This season, peas stocks in the Lalitpur-Jhansi region have been almost exhausted, while prices in Kanpur mandi are trading firm. Supplies in the Gwalior region are also not comfortable. Meanwhile, around 90% of the Canadian peas stocks that had remained dumped at Indian ports over the past three years have now been exhausted. The next new crop is not expected to arrive for at least five months. Considering these circumstances, there is limited scope for a decline in current pea prices. White peas are trading around Rs 4700 per quintal, while sorted-quality stocks are being traded by different parties at Rs 5100/5200 per quintal. Import parity at Indian ports is also not economical. Under these circumstances, the outlook for pea trading remains favourable in the coming period.
