New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): The moth crop has arrived in the producing regions of Nagaur, Dausa, Didwana, Barmer, Balotra and Merta in Rajasthan. However, despite a rise in arrivals about a fortnight ago, supplies have failed to build up significantly during October. Meanwhile, large companies have already begun aggressive buying, pushing prices sharply higher in Rajasthan’s mandis to Rs 9000/9200 per quintal. In the local market, moth that was trading at around Rs 6800 per quintal a month ago has now climbed to Rs 9400/9500 per quintal. Although a price rally during the harvesting season can prove risky for traders, stockists remain active in the market, creating scope for further gains. Nevertheless, traders should consider booking profits at these elevated levels.

Wheat: prices may increase in future

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): As wheat arrivals declining in the mandis of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and competitive buying continuing from eastern India,  the prices of mill-quality wheat has been quoted at Rs 3140/3150 per quintal over the past two days, following a period of consolidation. Prices have also risen in Bihar and Bengal, making Madhya Pradesh wheat more competitive in these markets. Consequently, arrivals in North India have declined, while supplies from Haryana and Punjab are no longer economically viable for these destinations. Wheat prices here are expected to rise by another Rs 20/30 per quintal. Although the government’s effective procurement strategy has resulted in total wheat purchases exceeding the target this year, farmers’ stocks of both lighter and heavier wheat have been lifted, reducing arrivals in mandis. Going forward, the extent of price fluctuations will largely depend on the government’s selling policy.

Basmati Rice:  Competitive Buying Triggers a Sharp increment

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Despite increasing pressure from the arrival of fine-grain Kharif paddy, a shortage of available stocks has encouraged competitive buying by rice mills. As a result, prices of 1509 paddy rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the afternoon to Rs 4300/4400 per quintal. New 1509 sela rice was traded at Rs 8400/8500 per quintal, while steam rice rose by Rs 200 to Rs 8700/8800 per quintal. The 1718 sela rice variety was traded at Rs 9500/9600 per quintal in truckloads, with higher quotations also emerging.  The stock of 1401 steam was being traded at Rs 10100 per quintal. Thus, both new and old paddy and rice varieties are witnessing a strong upward trend. With pipeline stocks depleted and exporters buying at prevailing prices, the market is expected to remain firm for the next few days.

Maize: will likely to remain Bullish

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Maize production in Madhya Pradesh is somewhat lower than during the corresponding period last year. Arrivals have also ended in the Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Kannauj and Bahraich belts of Uttar Pradesh. Recently, prices in these mandis rose by Rs 75/100 to Rs 2650/2700 per quintal. Good-quality, fully dried Grade No. 1 maize delivered to warehouses was reportedly sold at up to Rs 2750 per quintal. In Haryana and Punjab, it is ruling at Rs 2500/2550 per quintal. With maize supplies from Uttar Pradesh exhausted, further gains are expected. Ethanol companies are aggressively purchasing maize from Madhya Pradesh, while freight charges have also risen considerably.

Millet:  Competitive Buying Gains Momentum

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Sowing of millet was excellent across the major producing states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. Lower rainfall also helped crops perform well across these regions. However, stockists have entered the market with aggressive buying, pushing prices in producing regions to Rs 2500/2550 per quintal. Millet delivered to the Mauli-Barwala belt was traded at Rs 2675/2700 per quintal. Although the overall crop is considered very good, continued buying by stockists could push prices higher. Harvesting has been completed in most states, but around half the crop remains to be harvested in the Prayagraj belt. The current Arnab cyclone could cause some crop damage. Therefore, further gains in bajra are possible in the coming period.

Masoor: No Sustained Long-Term Rally Expected

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): The Supplies of masoor have remained weak in the Ganj Basoda, Sagar, Bhopal and Mungawali belts of Madhya Pradesh. However, Canadian supplies continue to arrive at competitive prices, and the new crop has been entering the market there over the past month. Based on the latest crop reports, Canadian supplies are expected to continue reaching India. Imported masoor may be somewhat more expensive than in recent weeks, but domestic masoor in bilty terms is selling above Rs 6700 per quintal. The continued availability of Canadian imports is likely to limit any sustained rally in domestic masoor prices. However, smaller masoor varieties are facing a shortage, leaving room for further gains in that segment.

Urad: prices may increase

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): During the current week, urad has witnessed widespread buying by pulse mills. Speculators have also purchased substantial quantities from Chennai at prices below prevailing levels, due to this, its prices gained by Rs 100 per quintal. FAQ-grade urad has reached Rs 10150 per quintal. Spot supplies are limited, while loading availability from Yangon remains low, restricting selling activity by Chennai traders. Urad arriving from the Gangoh belt is also expensive on a landed-cost basis, but local buying remains strong. Moreover, pulse mills are unable to obtain sufficient suitable-quality stocks for processing. Given these conditions, urad could witness a further rise of Rs 4/5 per kg in the near term.

Moong: Export Demand Expected to Remain Strong

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Fresh moong arrivals have increased in the Jaipur, Nagaur, Dausa, Didwana and Khatu belts of Rajasthan. The new crop is of good quality and is finding its way into export markets. However, trading volumes have declined compared with the previous week, due to this, the market showed nominal downfall. Its Prices fell by Rs 100 per quintal today. After this, it is trading at around Rs 8700 per quintal yesterday, prices were reportedly quoted as low as Rs 8600 per quintal. However, quotations strengthened by Rs 50/60 per quintal in the afternoon. The old moong crop in Madhya Pradesh has also been harvested. Stocks procured under the government’s central pool at minimum support prices in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have largely been sold through mandis, fetching Rs 7200/8000 per quintal depending on quality. Lighter and heavier grades from Rajasthan are still trading at Rs 7400/8700 per quintal. Considering these factors, there appears to be limited room for a substantial decline from current price levels.

Tur: Continue Buying at Current Levels

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Profit-booking following the recent price rise has pushed lemon tur down to Rs 9800 per quintal at the lower end. However, the market is showing signs of strengthening again because supplies from Chennai remain limited even at higher prices, while major pulse mills are facing a shortage of stocks. Prices could move towards Rs 10200 per quintal. Domestic production has declined, while the strengthening US dollar has made imports from Myanmar more expensive. No fresh domestic crop is expected before December/January. These factors are likely to support tur prices.

Gram desi: Expected to Cross Rs 8000 per quintal

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): The supply of gram desi showed downfall, due to this, its demand seems feeble from the pulse mills, in this situation, the prices of gram desi of Rajasthan is being traded at Rs 7550 per quintal at Lawrence Road. However, black chickpeas in Australia are commanding high prices, and very little old stock remains at ports. These factors could push the market back up, potentially taking prices above Rs 8000 per quintal. Nevertheless, traders should consider booking profits whenever prices rise. The processing economics of dal are currently around Rs 150 per quintal less favourable for mills than the cost of raw chana, making purchases of processed dal relatively more attractive than buying raw material.

Rajma Chitra: Supply Likely to Remain Tight

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Around 14/15 containers of new Rajma Chitra have arrived in Mumbai, with further consignments expected. The newly arrived stocks are selling at Rs 145 per kg in Mumbai, and there is currently little scope for a decline. Sowing of Indian-Brazil Rajma Chitra has been considerably lower in the Beed and Barshi belts because of water shortages in nearby producing regions. Depending on quality, old stocks are now trading at Rs 128/132 per kg. Varun Bhutan rajma is selling at Rs 114/116 per kg. Chinese supplies are also becoming expensive on a landed-cost basis, while this year’s sowing has been delayed. Given these circumstances, Rajma Chitra prices could rise further from current levels.

Gram kabuli: risk in the limited downfall

New Delhi, 29 October (NNS): Selling pressure kept the gram Kabuli market relatively subdued during the current week. Unsorted Maharashtra Kabuli chana is trading at Rs 83/85 per kg, while premium Sortex-quality Maharashtra stocks are quoted at up to Rs 90 per kg. Indian and Mexican varieties have also stabilised following their recent rise. However, limited supplies from overseas markets and high international prices suggest that Kabuli chana prices are unlikely to decline significantly from current levels.
