However, fresh crop arrivals from producing regions continue to reach the markets. Ample stocks and increasing supplies have restricted further price gains, keeping the market stable. Importers and large traders who had accumulated stocks at higher prices are continuously liquidating their old stocks to book profits. Higher availability of fresh crop stocks and increased supplies in the mandis are exerting downward pressure on spot prices. Further significant gains appear unlikely in the near future.

Following a sharp rally, spot prices of Erode gatha turmeric had declined by Rs 700 to Rs 22,700/22,800 per quintal, compared with the earlier level of Rs 23,400/23,500 per quintal. A day earlier, prices had surged by Rs 1,000 to Rs 23,700/23,800 per quintal. However, there is little cause for concern, as arrivals in the mandis remain low and carryover stocks have been declining over the past few years. Anticipating further price gains, large traders and stockists are holding back their stocks, resulting in limited market supplies. Fresh buying and speculative activity in the futures market have also contributed to the sharp rise. Turmeric prices are expected to remain firm and may witness further gains in the near future.

Today, Kanchicut large cardamom prices increased by Rs 60 to Rs 1,570/1,620 per kg. Demand in the domestic market has strengthened with the October-November festive season and the onset of winter, prompting increased buying by spice companies and wholesale purchasers. Demand, however, remains weak despite the consumption season. Although this year’s crop is expected to be good, prices are showing the potential for further gains in the near future.
